A Six-Switch Seven-Level Triple-Boost Inverter

Multilevel inverters in renewable applications usually require a high-voltage dc link fed by front-end dc--dc boost stage. Such two-stage power conversion, however, increases the switch count, leading to higher costs and losses. To lower number of switches, this letter proposes six-switch inverter, capable generating seven-level voltage triple-voltage boost. Both features are achieved with only four switches operating at high frequency while clamped low-voltage capacitors. The remaining two must, endure stresses but fortunately operate much frequency. overall switching losses inverter are, thus, significantly reduced. Besides, shares common ground between its input ac output, which theoretically helps eliminate leakage current, if powered photovoltaic sources. principles have been described verified through experiments an 800-W prototype.
